Night life

People are often trapped in a flurry of sound and movement of their own devising that says and does nothing beyond that instant in time…

It can be pretty to watch every now and then, but overall I prefer my night skies to be quietly populated with the ghosts of dead stars.

  1. Nice way to compare solitude and quiet from crowds and noise. While I prefer the quiet night skies, for First Night and July 4th in Boston, I do love a good fireworks display.

  2. As the legends have it, the Gauls were only afraid of one thing: that the heavens should fall upon their heads. You might be wondering what that has to do with anything, well... In teen years my family had a dog whose official name (the one on his papers) was Gallique (Tranz=>Gallic, as in the adjective describing something related to the gauls). Gallique was deathly afraid of loud noises in the sky. So whenever there were fireworks he would insist on being locked in the most isolated shut off room in the house, a windowless toilet at the center of a stone city building. And he'd stay there and shiver, and drool, huddled in a corner. I play music off a tape player and sing to cover the noise, and he would relax by a fraction, enough to lie down instead of hunching. And we'd wait it out. As a result, no one in my family cared much for loud fireworks ever after. ; j I love sparklers, but I guess all things considered I'd rather have a bonfire. And potentially cook with it.
We had a modest picnic yesterday evening, and during the course of the convrsation we were talking about picnic memories... My lover had several from the 4th of July, I guess it's a big deal in the US, huh? I've only read about it.
