Defiant dulcimer
Give me shatterproof light for I am picking up pieces of the rainbows from the spent dreams in which the instruments have fallen silent. Talent was of no avail and skill brought about no succour from these woes. The coldest hour has come ignoring the sweltering summer day. Yet still the dulcimer plays and carries me safely away.

What an uplifting expression of hope and resilience!
ReplyDeleteThat's a very positive way of looking at it, which probably reflects your personality. : j
ReplyDeleteEnchanting! Is that image of your making?
ReplyDeleteAloha Kass. Lovely to see you, as always.
ReplyDeleteI didn't take any of the original pictures (stock pictures). But I did photoshop them together.
Beware of enchantments, next thing you know some young princely perv will be smooching you in your sleep! And then where will you be! ; j
Beautiful music to go along with the words. We all need beauty in the midst of oppressive heat.
ReplyDeleteHello Theresa.
ReplyDeleteIt's comfortably warm here...
Yeah dulcimer really is beautiful!
Bring on the princely pervs.
ReplyDeleteYou have a way with words that astounds me at all times... I ma back from vacation and it is refreshing with posts like these. Enjoyed the clip as well.;)

I don't know what a dulcimer is, let alone a hammered dulcimer, I will have to check out Dizzi's website.
ReplyDeleteHa... Kass, beware what you wish for! You might wake up to find (http://morethananelectrician.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/prince-charles.jpg) looming over your bed. ;j

Aloha Eryl! Hammered Dulcimers are basically like Zithers that are played with little hammers instead of being plucked... Appalachian (aka mountain) dulcimers are essentially akin to four string guitars... And are played strummed or plucked. Roger Nicholson is a good representative of Mountain dulcimer playing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H484haw5dtI)
Dizzi's site is definitely worth a visit, her video section has a dozen or so of her tracks and she has loads of information about the instrument. : j
This was absolutely beautiful - the combination of the music, the image and the writing was awesome! This was such a lovely post to come back to the blogging world to! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, by the way: hiiii! I'm back!
It's a pleasure to see you back and posting, Sangu! : j
ReplyDeleteChecked Dizzi's site, you're right she is awesome, the dulcimer is a wonderful instrument indeed.
ReplyDeleteI introduced another friend to it and she was so taken by the instrument that she went right out and ordered herself one...
ReplyDeleteI'm always tempted by musical instruments but I just can't afford them, so instead I'm going to make them... Or fix badly damaged ones. Slowly slowly. I'm in no rush. : j
It is never what you hear that is important, but what you do not hear. The crisp and clear melody in this piece makes my imagination soar :)
ReplyDelete.....beautiful! Thank you for sharing it.
Beautiful! Love the words and the image. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHeya Melanie! I don't know about never (for what is heard), but certainly the unheard has it's place as well.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed! Thanks for reading it. : j
